Return to Eden

Everything comes back to the two trees in the Garden of Eden. The entire Bible and all of the works of God transport us back to Eden and enable each one of us to choose for ourselves what Adam and Eve rejected — to partake of the Tree of Life or of the Tree of Death. ~ “The tree of life [was] also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil” (Genesis 2.9). Sin had already contaminated heaven when Lucifer committed the original sin and one third of the angels with him. In order to deal with the sin problem, it was necessary for each person to reject sin and overcome its temptations. Thus, the Tree of the knowledge of death was placed in Eden. ~ “So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him” (Revelation 12.9).

The Key

The two trees correspond to God and Satan. The question of sin must be eternally laid to rest, which requires every man to decide to which of the two trees he corresponds, to the tree of eternal life or to the tree of eternal death. Far too much time is spent focusing on the tree of death and ignoring the Tree of Life, which is by far the most important. It is the Tree of Life that opens the door back to God, eternal life, and all of the blessings of heaven. The power of death is the ‘knowledge of evil,’ and the power of eternal life is the knowledge of love (God), which ~ “has now been revealed by the appearing of our Savior Jesus Christ, [who] has abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men” (2Timothy 1.10, John 1.4). The key that opens the door back into the garden paradise is the reality of ‘oneness’ of God. The power and brilliance of God rests in the unity of the divine godhead, the all-glorious three in one God.

Oneness with God

The Tree of Life brings man into eternal life, which is unity with God. Jesus is the ‘True Vine,’ the Tree of Life, by which we are made ‘one’ with the Trinity, the Holy Angels, the glorified saints, and the rest of creation. By Jesus, the anointed (living) word, we enter into and abide IN the divine Trinity, the True Tree of Life. Christ said ~ “I am the true vine. Abide in Me, and I in you. If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you” (John 15.1,4,7). The key to understanding God and the entire Bible is the single nature of God, the divine Trinity. 183 times in the New Testament, the term ‘in Christ’ or ‘in Him’ or ‘in His body (etc.) appear in the New Testament. All of these terms refer to man’s reconciliation into complete oneness with the Father and the Son through the Holy Spirit, who gives life to our human spirit, making us one spirit with God again. ~ “But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him” (1Corinthians 6.17). We become ‘born’ of God, partakers of His divine nature. ~ “through the knowledge of Him…may be partakers of the divine nature” (2Peter 1.3-4).

Hearing the Anointed Word

So, how does the believer enter and abide in this blessed state of oneness (unity) with God? Jesus gives us the answer to that question. He reveals that it is by the anointed Word of God that one returns to Eden and partakes of the tree of life. Jesus is the way. Jesus said ~ “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me” (John 14.6). His name is the ‘Christ’ (Greek), which means ‘anointed’ by the Spirit of God. Jesus is the Anointed Word,1 which is the Way and the Truth that lead to the hidden Tree of eternal Life in the Garden. Notice, He said ~ “The Spirit of the LORD [is] upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel (Luke 4.18). Every day, the Jewish priests preached from the same text that Jesus did. They preached what the Bible calls the ‘dead letter’ of the word of God at the same time that Jesus was preaching the anointed, life-giving, word of God. Those who listened to the word preached without the anointing died spiritually, a little more each day, while those who listened to preaching of the anointed word by Jesus were healed and received eternal life.

Choose the Tree of Life

The Bible says the signature of God upon His ministers is the anointed word ~ “For He whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for God does not give the Spirit by measure” (John 3.34). The Tree of Life in Eden is the Tree of the Spirit of Life, the Anointed Word, the True Vine.2 The Apostle Peter in the book of Acts demonstrates how through the anointed word the child of God becomes ‘One’ with the Spirit and partakes of the Tree of Life in this present age. Notice how the life-giving Spirit of God is ministered through the anointed word of God as it is preached. ~ “And as I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell upon them, as upon us at the beginning” (Acts 11.15). Don’t let spiritual death through the sin of Adam rule your life for one more minute. Begin now to partake to the Tree of Life, Jesus Christ, by giving yourself daily to the anointed Word.

1John 3.24

Now he who keeps His commandments abides in Him, and He in him. And by this we know that He abides in us, by the Spirit whom He has given us.
