Thunder is the result of lightning and is the insignia of the divine power of God. It is in the secret place of thunder that men are able to unleash the power of God, which is often the only way to make monumental changes in life when that are needed. It is called a ‘secret’ place of thunder because it is a complete mystery to most people and entrance is only granted to one person at a time to the few who have found the hidden entrance. This place that no one else is aware of is a place of private encounter with God where no other person can access, a place where the power of God is unleashed by intimate communion with Him. Two of Jesus’ disciples became so powerful by inhabiting this secret place that Christ Himself called them ‘The Sons of Thunder.’ ~ “James the [son] of Zebedee and John the brother of James, to whom He gave the name Boanerges, that is, “Sons of Thunder” (Mark 3:17).
The Power of the Apostles
These were two of the most powerful apostles of Jesus’ twelve disciples. James was the first martyr and John wrote 5 books in the Bible, including Revelation and is renowned for many other outstanding exploits. How did they get such power? Where did they learn how to gain access to the secret of the presence of God and the thundering power of nothing less than the throne itself of God almighty?… they did it by understanding that the ‘Secret Place’ is the formula to the miracle power of Jesus and His spiritual life, so they asked Jesus to teach them how to enter the secret place of thunder, understanding that was the secret place of prayer. ~ “Now it came to pass, as He was praying in a certain place, when He ceased, [that] one of His disciples said to Him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples” (Luke 11.1).
The Source of Power in the Church
People today need to learn again how to pray. The first step is to recognize the place and power of prayer. All of the past generations of the church understood that prayer is where the anointing of God is unleashed into their lives. That is how they were able to bring Christianity to every corner of the globe and build all of the great Churches and church organizations of the Great Awakening era that are still here today. Take a look at what Jesus said about this when Satan wanted to do to Peter what he did to the famous patriarch Job in the Old Testament. Satan wanted to torment Peter and bring him to death’s door in attacks and tribulation, sickness and death of family members. Listen to what Jesus says… ~ “And the Lord said, “Simon, Simon! Indeed, Satan has asked for you, that he may sift [you] as wheat. But I have prayed for you, that your faith should not fail; and when you have returned to [Me], strengthen your brethren” (Luke 22.31-32).
How to Paralyze Satan
Did you notice what Jesus did in order to stop Satan and free Peter from this terrible attack that Satan had planned for him? The Bible says that ‘JESUS PRAYED’! Yes, thunder from the secret place was able to deliver Peter out of the hands of the devil and from the torment of Satan. Think about how many Christians have been destroyed by the enemy because there was no one who knew how to release the thunder of God’s power against the devil from the Secret Place of the throne of God. This is why it is so import for people to belong to a good church and have Pastors who pray for them and watch out for them in the spirit. The Secret Place of Thunder is the place of intimate communion with God, which no one else can enter except you alone. Over and over again in the Bible, God promises that there is special power, rewards, and unique privileges awarded to those who assign knowing God a place of priority in their lives. Jesus said God would ‘reward’1 all those who enter into the Secret Place. ~ “You called in trouble, and I delivered you; I answered you in the secret place of thunder; I tested you at the waters of Meribah” (Psalms 81.7).
God answers His children in the secret place; however, few there are who know how to discern the voice of God because they have never learned how to enter the secret place of the presence of God… to really get to know God. He is a person who is almost completely ignored by most of those who call themselves His children. Remember what Jesus said about the importance of genuinely ‘knowing’ God. ~ “’And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’” (Matthew 7.23).
And from the throne proceeded lightnings, thunderings, and voices. Seven lamps of fire [were] burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God.
- Matthew 6.6
