Light is the source of all life in the natural world, and so it is in the realm of the Spirit. Light produces life, and darkness produces death. The Bible calls believers “children of light.” ~ “You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness” (1Thessalonians 5.5). This means that the children of the Kingdom of Heaven are children of ‘revelation knowledge,’ children of the revealed word of God. However, as time draws continually closer to the return of Christ, spiritual darkness grows ever more obscure. The Bible says that the last days of the present dispensation will be characterized by thick spiritual darkness. ~ “The sun shall be turned into darkness, And the moon into blood, Before the coming of the great and awesome day of the LORD” (Acts 2.20).
The Light of Scripture
More than ever before, lost multitudes are searching for the life-giving light of the word of God. This is the great1 apostasy, which is prophesied that will come upon the Church in the last days. Most of the Church will fall away from Christ, yet a small remnant shall be saved. ~ “Behold, the days are coming,” says the Lord GOD, “That I will send a famine on the land, Not a famine of bread, Nor a thirst for water, But of hearing the words of the LORD. They shall wander from sea to sea, And from north to east; They shall run to and fro, seeking the word of the LORD, But shall not find [it]” (Amos 8.11,12). The word of God imparts spiritual life when it is preached by men and women anointed of the Holy Spirit. More than ever before the children of God hunger and thirst for the anointed word, that is revealed by the light of the Spirit. The word ‘light’ in scripture refers to ‘Revelation,’ spiritual understanding. Jesus said that it was the light of God’s word that gave spiritual life to man. ~ “In the beginning was the Word [Christ]… in Him was life, and the life was the light of men” (John 1.1,4).
The spiritual stature of the believer is determined by the amount of revelation knowledge he has received from the Holy Spirit. Thank God for the anointed ministers God has sent to His church. When the word of God is preached by the power of the Holy Spirit, divine life is imparted by the Holy Spirit to those who have their hearts opened. It is because of the manifest presence of God by the anointed word — Jesus said, “the life was the light.” The root cause of Christians that have no life is because they have no light. When the Spirit is present imparting revelation knowledge by the Word of God, that word is saturated with the divine life of God. The hearers of the word are transformed, they are changed, they are impacted, as the word enters their heart diffusing divine life into their spirit.
This is what happened to the people of Cesarea as they listened to the anointed word preached by the Apostle Peter. ~ “While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who heard the word” (Acts 10.44). Millions of God’s children have already perished because there was no revelation teaching of God’s word. They could hear the word with their ears and see it with their eyes, but there was no light, no life-giving revelation of the word by the Holy Spirit. The Apostle Paul said, ~ “Who also made us sufficient as ministers of the new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life” (2Corinthians 3.6).
It is the ‘anointed’ word that gives life; the Bible preached without spiritual Revelation ‘kills.’ The Jewish priests preached the same scriptures that Jesus preached, but thier words ministered spiritual death because there was no anointing in them. Speaking to the priests, Jesus said ~ “You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me” (John 5.39). And so it is today, they have carnal knowledge of the scripture, but no live-giving revelation from the Holy Spirit. The religious priests of Jesus time, had no anointing because they didn’t have a profound ‘relationship’ with the Holy Spirit. Jesus said ‘light is life’—which means ‘revelation’ comes from ‘relationship.’ The only true light (revelation) comes from contact with the presence of divine life — personal relationship — with Christ. Identify from where God is speaking to you because that is where He has placed you. Connect yourself to that ministry and don’t let anything separate you from there because that is where you will grow and become mature in the spirit. Begin to spend time meditating in the light of life. Like Moses whose face shone2 with the light of heaven because he spent forty days in the mountain alone with God, so your life will change from darkness to light as you let God transform you into a child of light.
1 John 1:5
This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all.
