God has sent the Holy Spirit with the specific commission of making sure that each one of His children overcome every attack of the enemy as well as all human error and weakness. It is disconcerting to see how many Christians who cannot understand the Bible and continually fall victim to every trick of devil only because they have never been introduced to the Holy Spirit. The New Testament is the most magnificent document ever written. It reveals that the ministry of the Holy Spirit functions as ‘The Department of Human Resources’ of the Kingdom of God. The Spirit’s ministry serves as God’s insurance policy that in the New Testament all of God’s children who are sincere and pure of heart will successfully win the “good fight1 of faith” in this life and inherit eternal life in the age to come. Jesus made an astonishing statement about the Holy Spirit revealing the unlimited capacity He brings to the disposal of the believer. He said ~ “Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you” (John 16.7).
It is difficult to understand how anyone could be of greater benefit to the Christian than Jesus Christ; however, in these words of the Master Himself it is clearly stated that the ministry of the Holy Spirit is of greater benefit to the believer in the earth after Christ was resurrected and seated on the throne of God. In regard to this outstanding statement of Messiah, we will say nothing more at this moment than that Jesus alone is the author and finisher of salvation. He did all of the work of redemption and then wrote New Testament in His own blood. Albeit, because of man’s inability to comprehend the mighty works of God, the benefit of the Holy Spirit’s ministry at the present is what is most necessary to mankind. As time permits, let’s have a quick look at two of the specific functions of the Spirit. The first great ministry of the Spirit is in the area of ‘Revelation Knowledge.’ The Kingdom of Light operates completely on the knowledge and truth of God, which often must be revealed to man because of his present fallen spiritual state. The Bible says ~ “I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear [them] now. However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own [authority], but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come” (John 16.12,13).
How Faith Works
The Holy Spirit is commissioned by God to serve as a personal consultant and tutor who has all of the power and resources of heaven at His disposal. The aforementioned scripture verse says that Jesus had ‘many more things to say to His disciples’ but they were unable to understand it until the ministry of the Holy Spirit was made available to them. As you are taught the Bible, begin to discerned how the voice of the Spirit, speaking to your spirit, teaches you the word of God by imparting revelation knowledge directly to your spirit. The second great attribute of the Spirit is His active engagement in the inner operation of faith. This will help some understand why it is so difficult for them to develop their faith. Consider the following words of the Nazarite ~ “He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare [it] to you. All things that the Father has are Mine. Therefore I said that He will take of Mine and declare [it] to you” (John 16.14,15). Here you have before your eyes the spiritual operation of faith in motion. Faith does not work without the Holy Spirit. The Bible defines faith as ~ “…the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen” (Hebrews 11.1). Now, you know from where the ‘conviction’ and the ‘evidence’ come from that make faith operate.
Grieving the Holy Spirit
They come from the Holy Spirit as He ‘makes you know’ the things of God that are given to you. Unfortunately, most Christians have never been formally introduced to the Holy Spirit. They still don’t know Him. They cannot distinguish His voice because they have never been taught to recognize Him and how to collaborate with Him. So He waits patiently for them to mature spiritually enough to carry out a personal relationship with Him as they go through their lives minute by minute. In closing, one important facet of getting to know the Holy Spirit will be revealed today. Consider the words of the Apostle Paul written in the book of Ephesians ~ “Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption” (Ephesians 4.29,30). More will be written about the vital link that exists between words and spiritual realm at a future time. Suffice it for now to say that the Holy Spirit is distanced from many Christians because He is “grieved” by the evil words they speak, words of — false doctrine (lies), lying (deception), hate, gossip, fear, anger, etc. Invite the Holy Spirit into your life today and begin to get to know Him as your best friend, and He will guide into all of the great things God has planned for you.
“I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do [them].
