Knowing God

He is someone they have never met. They analyze, adulate & worship Him, but they do not know Him. They can quote every scripture in the Bible about loving God, yet they have no intimate relationship with him. When they say they ‘love’ God, they are in love with their own mental images of God, not with the first person of the Trinity. They can tell you everything that God said in the Bible, but they don’t know what He said to them last night. They can’t discern between the voice of God and the voice of their own thoughts because they have never been in His presence long enough to distinguish His voice. Jesus said this would be the fateful demise of the last generation on Judgement Day. He said, ~ “Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ “And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!” (Matthew 7.22,23). Notice, these individuals are well informed. They know everything about casting out demons & working miracles even to the point of deceiving themselves into imagining that they were actually doing it, when in reality they had never even been truly born again and had never known God on a personal level.

The Pretenders

They love listening to worship songs and frequently insist that the worship segment was the best part of the entire service. Jesus said ~ “Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written: ‘This people honors Me with [their] lips, But their heart is far from Me’” (Mark 7.6). The key here is ‘knowing God’ intimately on a minute-to-minute, day-to-day bases, not simply knowing about Him. The Bible has much to say about this common spiritual dilemma. Isaiah the prophet spoke about those who love to study and learn about God, but have no intention of ever really knowing Him. Read the following verse putting particular attention on the word ‘as.’ ~ “Yet they seek Me daily, And delight to know My ways, As a nation that did righteousness, And did not forsake the ordinance of their God. They ask of Me the ordinances of justice; They take delight in approaching God” (Isaiah 58.2). Most church affiliates today know about God, but they do not ‘know God’ on an intimate bases, the same way they would know a sibling or a best friend.

Knowing God

To know God, one must understand how to enter into His presence and converse with Him, and then he must do it on a regular bases—this is knowing God, the same way anyone would know his father or best friend. ~ “Thus says the LORD: “Let not the wise [man] glory in his wisdom, Let not the mighty [man] glory in his might, Nor let the rich [man] glory in his riches; but let him who glories glory in this, That he understands and knows Me, That I [am] the LORD” (Jeremiah 9.23,24). Why do they not know God… because they do not read their Bible, and they do not do what it says. They cannot know God because they insist on following in the ways of the world, living in the ‘futility [stupidity] of their mind.’ ~ “This I say, therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you should no longer walk as the rest of the Gentiles walk, in the futility of their mind” (Ephesians 4.17).

Time & Dedication

In spite of their pretentious babble, they know nothing of the higher knowledge of the spirit because they spend every minute of their waking time imprisoned in the venomous thoughts of the mind, and through the mind man can never know God. ~ “For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through wisdom [the mind] did not know God… the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know [them], because they are spiritually discerned” (1Corinthians 1.21, 2.14). The human mind cannot reach God. That’s why God has given to each of His children a reborn spirit, so there will be no excuse for not knowing God and communicating with Him on a daily basis. Satan has access1 to the mind, and he will not passively comply with your attempts to turn your consciousness to the Spirit of God, away from the mind. It took me over four years to learn how to summarily shut down the mind and tune into the voice of the Spirit. Only with much time and dedicated practice is the mind shut down and brought into subjection to the Spirit. Begin today to do whatever is necessary to enter into His presence and get to know God. It will be the best decision you ever made in your life.

2 Corinthians 10.5

Casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.
