Not only does the suffering of a sick mind choke the life out of a person, a wounded and exhausted soul cannot function properly bringing on unforeseen circumstances. The mind and soul, like a broken leg or an infected lung, cannot perform their daily tasks, which eventually complicate life further only making things worse, augmenting the sickness and suffering even more. This vicious cycle is at work in the life of thousands of God’s children every day, stealing their joy and rendering them too weak to fight the “the good fight1 of faith.” The Bible teaches the importance of maintaining a healthy and strong mind. Have a look at the words written by the ancient prophet Isaías. ~ “The whole head is sick, And the whole heart faints. From the sole of the foot even to the head, [There is] no soundness in it, [But] wounds and bruises and putrefying sores; They have not been closed or bound up, Or soothed with ointment” (Isaiah 1.5,6).
A Satisfied Soul
The mind and soul work closely together in scripture, the soul being comprised of the mind, the will and the conscience. The concept of managing and caring for one’s mind is categorized as one of the principal objectives of wisdom. The greatest philosopher of all time, King Solomon, wrote in his seminal book of Ecclesiastics ~ “If a man begets a hundred [children] and lives many years, so that the days of his years are many, but his soul is not satisfied with goodness, or indeed he has no burial, I say [that] a stillborn child [is] better than he” (Ecclesiastics 6.3). Solomon, who had a thousand wives and riches beyond measure, after having searched the depths of wisdom, understood and declared that all the material possessions in the world are useless and grievous without ‘a satisfied soul.’ Most people never think about what state their soul is in. Many have neglected souls that have suffered so much, they have come to believe over time that torment and pining away the hours is normal.
Like the guy who smokes 2 packs a day, the state of his lungs is never considered until it begins to cause him pain. The first step toward healing the mind is to — ‘stop smoking.’ Similarly, to the nicotine addict, the application of medication is of little benefit until the cause of the sickness is correctly identified and addressed. As with nicotine, one must first recognize that over time it is common for one to begin to like, even enjoy the poison of his addiction, the very thing that is killing him. The Bible says ~ “A satisfied soul loathes the honeycomb, But to a hungry soul every bitter thing [is] sweet” (Proverbs 27.7). The smoker is seeking satisfaction; he is not seeking death. His soul is starving for fulfilment and joy, but he can’t find it, so he begins to reach out and try to find satisfaction. Eventually, he becomes so hungry that … ~ “every bitter thing is sweet” (Proverbs 27.7). This is significant, because in regard to correctly identifying the poisonous arrows the enemy uses to wound and afflict the mind, one must comprehend that much of the devil’s poison has over the years seemingly become ‘sweet’ to the victim. In the time that remains, let it be said that there are two major categories in which lay 90% of the enemy’s toxins. They are ‘fear’ and ‘conscience.’ Like a seriously damaged liver, the soul possesses a marvelous ability to heal itself as soon as it is clean of all toxins. As soon as the mind is alleviated of fear, it will begin to rapidly heal. The Bible says ~ “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4.6,7).
Comfort & Healing
All fear and worry must be vigorously identified and irradiated from the life of the believer. The peace of God will ‘guard’ the heart and mind of the those who learn to take all of their needs to God by faith in prayer. Finally, all wounding of the conscience must be terminated. The devil has brainwashed the current generation to become numb to things that offend the conscience, but the wounds of conscience are the source of unbearable pain and suffering of the soul. Most of what is sold on the market as ‘entertainment’ is little more than vexation of the soul and conscience. Abraham’s nephew, Lot, was one of three people who escaped the destruction of God that was poured out on the depraved society of Sodom and Gommorah. Look at what happened to Lot’s soul as he watched the degenerate lasciviousness that surrounded him. ~ “And delivered righteous Lot, [who was] oppressed by the filthy conduct of the wicked (for that righteous man, dwelling among them, tormented [his] righteous soul from day to day by seeing and hearing [their] lawless deeds)” (2Peter 2.7,8). The Holy Spirit is close to all who suffer from a wounded soul. All who clean their lives of the filthiness of the flesh He will comfort and heal of all maladies of mind and soul.
‘Behold, I will bring it health and healing; I will heal them and reveal to them the abundance of peace and truth.
